The Secret of being the GOOD Witch
It's not easy being the good witch. It's not easy being the bad witch either actually. The statement in general makes little sense because you can no sooner be a good person over a bad person. Both potentialities exist within everyone. A witch is just a person, and a person is fallible by nature. Being a person, or being a person who is a witch...is one and the same. If we learn anything from history- anything at all- ought it not be to allow others to be who they are in as much as possible so long as they do no harm to others?
What is a good witch?
Well, instead of just answering the question, maybe I can pose the question in a new way. What does society think a witch actually is? What does it mean to be a witch? Isn't a witch just a person? What makes them different from the average Joe? In our average American society, people seem to steer clear of that which they understand very little. In order to find common ground, we lean into the things we can relate to, and away from those we cannot relate to.
How would this sentiment be different if we exchanged the word "witch" for the word "Wiccan"? Does it mean something different to you now? What is a Wiccan? Let me help you out with that:
Wicca is paganism. Paganism is a belief system upon which the religion of Wicca is based.
What I can tell you is this-
If you are afraid of a person because they are a witch, then you are afraid of a person. You should look at yourself and ask yourself why you are afraid.
But if you choose not to accept a person- or you choose to look down on them for- or you allow others to cultivate a society or atmosphere of fear towards a person or people who are a witch or witches...what are you?
Here is what I think, based on my own experiences.
My earliest memories of my Mother dis-associating from the Catholic church were around age 5. She had decided that they were always asking her to give more money than she had to give, and she based her reason for disconnecting this issue. Being a very young child, I had no input on this. I have no memories of church- perhaps occasional services or Feasts and Fairs at St. Rocco's, but nothing significant.
Instead we were raised in traditions that were Pagan mostly.
We lived off the land- we rarely bought groceries in a grocery store like the kind we currently lean so heavily on in our Modern Society. We lived modestly by most means and standards. My Father and Mother were not in agreement on all the lifestyle stuff, but for this article, I am only focused on the absence of Catholicism and the lifestyle surrounding the Paganism. You will come to relate "pagan" to "witch" by the end of this article.
From Wikepedia:
Paganism (from classical Latin pāgānus "rural", "rustic", later "civilian") is a term first used in the fourth century by early Christians for people in the Roman Empire who practiced polytheism,[1] or ethnic religions other than Judaism. In the time of the Roman empire, individuals fell into the pagan class either because they were increasingly rural and provincial relative to the Christian population, or because they were not milites Christi (soldiers of Christ).[2][3] Alternative terms used in Christian texts were hellene, gentile, and heathen.
I had to take a pause and consider this after finding this blurb in Wikepedia related to Paganism. How about you? What do you see?
Let's break it down a bit:
1. Pagan was a term created by Christians
2. Pagans were living on the outskirts of society and stuck to their provincial or ethnic beliefs (they did their own thing?)
3. They were not mainstream- considered to be on the outside of society, which as considered to be populous- "Christian population"?
4. Wiccans within the religion itself call themselves witches. Witches who are non-affiliated and choose to practice solitary witchcraft, do not call themselves Wiccan.
5. Witches are practitioners, not believers, like the Christian faith.
For an idea of how Christian believers and those with no affiliation describe us witches, check out this article:

Modern feminists from the 1960's to now would tell you that our society has revolved around the wants, needs and beliefs of men. What do men want? What are they seeking in life? How does the idea of "what men want out of life" relate to why people are afraid of witches?
Anyone who has grown up on the East Coast of the USA knows about the Witch Trials of Salem and Virginia and throughout the early colonies. These ideologies are embedded in the character of Americans even now. Much of the USA outside of the Northeast are Religious communities such as Baptists, Evangelical Christians and also Catholics. There are so many religions that I cannot begin to name them all so do not be offended if you do not see yours named here. Just understand that men and women of religious families think and believe alike but with a *slant toward their particular belief. In some cases the slant is an entire lifestyle that DICTATES behavior but in other cases, it's the echo of beliefs that exists in their soul from childhood into adulthood.
What we can glean from history, and we can learn at the Witch Museum of Salem (see link below)
is that "Witches" are misunderstood and because they are not understood and not protected in society (by laws, by men and women and bystanders), they are easily coerced into submission or pushed into hiding.
When can the Witches among us ...WHERE can the witches among us... truly be free? Can they be free in Industry? Can they find love? Can they raise families, DO THEY raise families? Do they do it "in" or do they "out" themselves as they go? Does a man even know if he is marrying a witch? Did she MAKE him love her by using a spell or was it real?
So
many
questions.
why would a lover choose a witch? Why would a lover not?
This is an easily answered query...a lover (for us ladies)...is a man. A man, wants to own his woman for this is our culture. They place demands upon us still and we still adhere because why? Because the bible has said and society has followed...that the man is the head of the house. So why would a lover choose a witch?
he would not.
He would instead choose a wife.
A man knows that their power lies in the acquisition of worldly wealth- men are fickle this way.
That wealth is looked upon favorably when guarded, protected and enhanced by the beautiful qualities of a good wife. Is there such a thing? A good wife...like a good person...like a good witch...is hard to find, right?
I threw the witch part in for good measure because we are concluding that a witch is just a person, right?
Anyway, about the male-domination of women and how it leads to fear of witches...
Oh! Was that why I was really here today writing this? Silly me...perhaps I should change the title. Maybe it would catch much MORE attention...
How can a man love a witch? How can a witch love a man (or a woman)- feel free to reverse the roles. One can conclude this is far more prevalent in women who are witches and trying to find a man to accept and love her instead of her LURING him in using spells and magic!
Do witches eat their children or usurp their youth from them in order to stay younger, prettier, more vital?
But a witch- a true witch, defies the norms- as we have well established above, have we not? She or he (the witch), does NOT fit into society but lives on the outskirts of it. She or he is often misunderstood, left out, not chosen or selected as the wife or the husband. Why?
I believe the question is best answered by the following poem:
I was sad when I saw how short this poem was, because I thought of how many love poems and hero poems and life poems have gone on and on and on forever...so long. But this one said it all and said just enough.
Another favorite Witch media piece of mine is a story by Margaret Atwood:

There is a lot out there in the media, and in society which portray witches in a negative or isolating way. This would seem by design to remove the "power" a witch has. What power is that?

THE 13 POWERS REAL WITCHES HAVE:
https://gostica.com/spiritual-lifestyle/the-13-powers-all-real-witches-have/
1. THEY ARE ABLE TO CONNECT WITH ANIMALS.
Witches are able to connect with all forms of life on a deeper level than those who are not witches. They appreciate and resonate with animals in a way that is unique and all their own. It is almost as if they can literally speak to one another.
2. THEY HAVE EXTREMELY VIVID DREAMS.
Witches tend to get a lot of insight from their dreams. Because the time in which they are asleep is when the veil is thinnest, they do a lot of work in the dream world.
Through their dreams, they may connect with the deceased or even come to a new understanding. A lot of witches actually even choose to do their work through their dream state, this can be both complicated and beneficial.
3. THEY HAVE A DEEPER CONNECTION WITH THE PEOPLE AROUND THEM.
Witches are the people you love to be around the most. Their energies are more than enough to brighten a room. You cannot help but be drawn to them.
The presence a witch has is not as ominous as the big screen tends to make it out to be. Witches are often very positive people to be around and they bring with them a kind of energy that you cannot find in other people. They benefit others by just being near.
4. THEY CAN LIFT THE SPIRITS OF JUST ABOUT ANYONE.
Witches have a lot of powers, but one of their most amazing ones is that they are able to bring a smile to the faces of just about everyone they cross paths with.
When someone is down in the dumps a witch can really make them feel better. They don’t have to do much to bring about positive change. While you might not realize it, when they come to your side and allow you to cry on their shoulders they are taking away the problem and working to better your existence.
5. THEY ARE NATURAL BORN HEALERS.
Witches are naturally good at healing others. They can help you to heal on an emotional or physical level. While you might not realize the impact they are making they are working wonders on your life.
They tend to really spend a lot of time nurturing the lives of those they care for most, and this is done in various forms of magic and otherwise.
6. THEIR INTUITION IS MUCH STRONGER THAN THAT OF MOST OTHERS.
Witches have an intuition stronger than that of most other people. They are able to feel and sense things that no one else can.
If the witch in your close circle of friends says something is happening or he or she doesn’t like someone then you need to take their words to heart. They don’t warn others without reason.
7. THEY HAVE A GREEN THUMB.
Witches are great at keeping plants alive. Like I said before, they are deeply connected with all forms of life on this planet. They are able to grow just about anything and work wonders in the garden.
8. THEY ALWAYS KNOW WHAT TO SAY/GIVE GOOD ADVICE.
Witches always know what to say and are able to give some of the best advice. They are not going to tell you what you want to hear but they will tell you what you need to hear. They know how to get their point across without making things too weird.
9. THEY CAN PREDICT THE WEATHER.
Witches can predict the weather in some ways. They seem to be more in tune with nature and because of that usually, know what is going to happen in regards. If it is going to rain it is almost as if they can smell it.
10. THEY CAN REMOVE NEGATIVITY FROM THEIR BODIES AND SPECIFIC PLACES.
Witches can remove negative energies from their bodies and the places around them. They are able to cleanse on a deeper level than most. They are constantly working to make this world a better place.
11. THEY TEND TO HAVE PSYCHIC ABILITIES.
Witches tend to be a bit psychic. While the abilities in regards they might have come in a wide range they are always quite prominent. Whether they can speak to the dead or see the future they are always working to improve on these abilities.
12. THEY CAN LOOK AT THINGS IN A MORE OPEN-MINDED MANNER.
Witches can look at most anything with an open mind. While most people don’t think this is a power it truly is. Most people in this world seem practically incapable of this.
Being open-minded in this day and age is very important. In order for a witch to keep her spirits where they need to be she has to be open-minded. In the world of magic, anything is possible.
13. THEY UNDERSTAND THE WORLD AND NATURE.
Witches understand nature and the world before us all in a way that those who are not witches are not capable of. They see things others cannot see and feel things others cannot feel. While witches are a bit misunderstood they are truly amazing.
