HIKING DAY revised this week
Friday's are my day to write about our Thursday Hiking experience. This week, my son and I worked in the Berry Patch and the Fairy Garden to get things ready for Spring. Later, when Annika was home, we went for a walk/Bike Ride to the Soccer Complex.
At around 12:45pm, both Alex and I were excited to take a break and get outside. It was his lunch break for "Long Period", so we bundled up and grabbed the dog and went for a walk around the property to check things out. The Berry Patch and Fairy Garden looked Bleak to say the very least. Many things were just piled up where they shouldn't be because my husband is very untidy when he works the yard. If I want to avoid that happening in the future, I will need to be more attentive, stay active and prevent it. Alex and I decided to fence off the Berry Patch Zone due to the fact that birds and bunnies ravished it last year. My plants looked like barely twigs! It was utterly discouraging. BUT...determined and not deterred, we found some chicken wire and stakes and made a pen around the area to prevent the rabbits. I spend extra time tacking my decorative things so that they might last through some windy days, and then we raked some leaves and mulch out.
My Berry plants were so impacted by the animals, the poor watering and many other factors, that you cannot even see them here! But again...NOT discouraged. I will prevail. I am no quitter. Plus if you read yesterday's blog about the Homesteading, you will understand how important it is to me to have thriving Berry Bushes. I will make this happen. It is NO ACCIDENT of planning that I situated a peaceful undisturbed corner of the property to be my Fairy Garden and then also placed my Potting Table back there.
I mean to Create Magic!
My husband always finds clever uses for things...
and one night while at his part time job at Lowe's, he saw something in this unit above and knew he could shape it for me to make a FREE POTTING TABLE. He planned to paint it for me but as all things go with Jamie, he has TOO MUCH on his plate. So last fall I told him that I could not wait any longer and I did not care if it was painted or not...it needed to find it's home in my garden. I have a lovely Goddess statue in the top right corner, a gift from my dear friend Lori. I have a memorial Stone painted in honor of Jeanne and a print of a lady freely driving, scarf blowing. Jeanne was like that. Also, she loved her gardens.
Again, another odd find by my husband....
My husband works at Brown University. They have been doing a lot of renovating and someone threw out these window frames with metal detail. Jamie knew I would love to use them to decorate my garden space. I'm not sure what I will do with them just yet.
Two Berry Patch Mascots watch over our garden...
Rocky (the dog above) was our dog and was sick so we lost him. Jefferson here is a painted ceramic turtle that I HAD to buy. Jamie named him.
Later that afternoon, when school was done and Annika was home from work, Alex wanted to ride his bike while I walked the dog and Annika wanted to Speed walk so we enjoyed the late afternoon outdoors again!
Dinner was easy...too tired to be creative, I was glad to have a quick standby of Chicken Sausage, Cavatappi and Vodka Sauce.
The day was a good one...I hope we have more like it. It feels so good to have Spring coming. We need this.
